History of Cultivate Payette
In 2013, a group of Payette County citizens representing various sectors in the community began work on the Cultivate Idaho Initiative, a 10-month community assessment that looks beyond emergency food assistance and explores local food systems, economic development, community support systems, and civic engagement for sustainable solutions to build food secure and thriving communities. Payette County was the second community in Idaho to undergo the Cultivate Idaho process. Core Group members worked through a visioning and planning process to ultimately determine the “next steps” for the community in its overall effort to achieve food security and sustainability.
The CULTIVATE: A Place at the Table event represented the culmination of several months of community assessment and interviews in Payette County. The event was held at the Payette County Fairgrounds. 41 individuals attended the CULTIVATE: A Place at the Table event. These participants came from a variety of backgrounds, including non-profits, private businesses, governance, faith communities, advocates, nutrition educators, emergency food providers, schools, and food producers.
