First developed in July 2013, SNAP into Action, is Idaho’s privately funded plan to increase SNAP participation in an effort to fight hunger and poverty throughout the state. Increasing SNAP participation is also a goal of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) division. To address this goal FNS offers a 50% reimbursement of administrative costs to state SNAP departments who submit a SNAP Outreach Plan for approval every year. For example, in 2012, 41 states chose to submit plans. Therefore, Idaho is unique in that it has the only privately funded SNAP Outreach Plan in the country.
