Senior Hunger
Putting Healthy Food and Relationships within Reach

Meet The Presenter
Lorraine Driscoll works for AARP in Washington DC and has been instrumental in the development of the Create the Good toolkits. Create the Good continues founder Dr. Andrus’ legacy by providing tools and resources so that people can make their own communities better whether they have an hour or just a few minutes a day.
Workshop Theme
Many older Idahoans are choosing between paying for food and paying for medicine, or between food and heat, or between food and rent. The ranks of seniors in need are growing as people live longer, and older workers lose their jobs and erode their retirement savings. Idaho has been ranked as 15th worst for seniors at risk of hunger by the Meals on Wheels Association of America.
This workshop will focus on strategies to put healthy food and relationships within reach for Idaho seniors. Join this group to learn ways to combine access to food with efforts that involve meaning and relationships. This will include strategies such as “family to family” efforts, community gardens, connecting eligible seniors with Food Stamps, finding and reaching out to seniors in need and those who want to give back. In addition to solutions to be used in your community, come be a part of identifying statewide “next steps” for senior food security.
