2023 Summit on Hunger and Food Security
Advancing the National Strategy for Hunger, Nutrition and Health in Idaho
The 2022 White House Strategy on Nutrition, Hunger and Health included a call to action to community groups to address hunger in their state. The IHRTF answered that call to action.
The 2023 Summit focused on Idaho-specific solutions to alleviate barriers to food security that mapped to four of the five pillars of health and nutrition in the White House Strategy. Attendees gathered in small breakout groups to create actionable objectives for the next two years.
Over 175 individuals attended the Hunger Summit, which was held on September 28, 2023, in Boise, ID. They represented counties from all over Idaho, including Ada, Canyon, Bonneville, and Bonner. Attendees also hailed from other states, such as California, Nevada, New York, and Washington. Organizations in attendance included
Blue Cross of Idaho, Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Idaho Foodbank, Idaho Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, and three state university (Boise State, Idaho State, and the University of Idaho).

Still overcoming a major world event, this conference included a presentation from Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian, Dean of the Friedman School of Nutrition at Tufts University at the time, and was followed by a panel of Idaho experts in nutrition and food security focused on four key areas.
